Main Idea: What if all you need for transformation is already in you?
Introduction: We continue our Transformation series, discussing the different parts of man—spirit, soul, and body—that can be transformed by God.
Discussion Starter: What is the most amazing transformation you have seen? An addict’s recovery? An impressive weight loss? A relationship restored?
Primary Scriptures: 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24, 1 Corinthians 2:9-13, 1 Thessalonians 5:11, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
- Read 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 and 1 Corinthians 2:9-13. Pastor Zac said, “We are spiritual beings have a natural experience, not natural beings have a spiritual experience.” How is your spirit? Do you feel more like a natural being or a spiritual being? Why? What or who helps you to see yourself as the spiritual being that you are?
- The next part of our being is our soul—the seat of our emotions, what we think, and what we feel. The people and the voices we surround ourselves with influence how we think and feel. This is not just about the people you surround yourself with, but also the podcasts you listen to, the videos you watch, and the books you read. So, who are the voices feeding your soul?
- Read 1 Thessalonians 5:11. Your group is a great resource of encouragement! Take some time to build each other up. What are your group members doing well? How are they teaching you to grow closer to God? How are they feeding your soul?
- The last part of our being is our body. Read 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. How are you taking care of your body? Do you need to eat more or eat less? Exercise more or rest more? Are you getting regular check ups? Are you struggling with addiction? Ask God to show you one step you can take this week to care for the body that He gave you.
Suggestion: Consider breaking the group into twos or threes for this section.
Through the discussion you may have found that you wish your spirit, soul, or body might be transformed. Read 1 Thessalonians 5:24 again. Praise God! He is faithful, and He is the One who can and will transform you. Pray 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 over each other, and pray for any specific transformation you are asking God to make in your lives.
