New Voices Weekend – Discussion Guide

Getting Started

Main Idea: We are kingdom builders, and kingdom builders don’t build alone.

Introduction: This week, young adults at every campus shared a message about how God called them and how God is using them to build His kingdom. They invited us all to own our part in the ministry of God’s kingdom: we are all called to share the gospel and tell others about Christ.

Discussion Starter: There are seasons in the life of a Christ follower. What season are you in now? Are you just hearing the gospel for the first time? Have you been pursuing God for years? Are you struggling through a season of doubt?

Encounter God

Primary Scriptures: Hebrews 11:13-16

Discussion Questions:

  1. Read Hebrews 11:13-16. Look at verse 13. Do you feel like a stranger or a foreigner on the earth? Or do you feel at home? What makes you feel this way?
  2. The beginning of verse 13 says that “These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar” (ESV). How did they keep the faith? Have you “seen” things God has promised from afar? How have you experienced that? How do you keep believing in eternity when you can’t see it with your eyes?
  3. Are you inspired by any story in particular in the “Hall of Faith” as Hebrews 11 is called? Or have you been led or inspired in faith by someone in your lifetime?

Discovery Bible Method: For deeper study, as an alternative to the questions above, read Hebrews 11:13-16. and use the Discovery Bible Method to explore the passage.

Embrace Others

Suggestion: Consider breaking the group into twos or threes for this section.

Take some time to pray earnestly for one another. Pray for good spiritual direction from mentors, and pray that you all can be mentors and disciple others. Pray for fellow builders to help you build God’s kingdom.

Engage the World Around Us

Engaging at Faith Promise: Are you serving at Faith Promise? There are all sorts of ministry opportunities and jobs that are required to make the weekend experiences run smoothly. From parking attendant to musician to food services, there are many ways to serve. For more information, attend Next Steps at your campus, or visit https://faithpromise.org/serving/opportunities.

Engaging in Our Community and the World:  Serve Day is coming up on July 10! Based on Matthew 20:28, Serve Day is an opportunity to follow Christ’s example to serve and put others first. Please visit https://faithpromise.org/events/serve-day-2021 to find out more!

Expand God’s Kingdom

Read Ecclesiastes 4:9. Think back to the discussion starter. What season of faith are you in? Do you know someone in an earlier season you could mentor? Or someone in the same season who could walk alongside you? How about someone in a season ahead of you who could share their wisdom?

Leader’s Notes

ALL groups at Faith Promise should follow Jesus Christ and lead others to do the same. Below are the marks of a growing follower and disciple of Jesus.

– A follower of Jesus desires to encounter God through the deeper study and application of God’s Word.

– A follower of Jesus embraces people and values relationships on a deeper level so everyone can grow together.

– A follower of Jesus engages and serves the world around them and in their community, through local partners or God-directed opportunities.

– A follower of Jesus expands God’s Kingdom through the development and multiplication of disciple-makers, possibly to lead more groups at Faith Promise.
