House to House Week 1 – Discussion Guide

Connect

Main Idea:   Fire doesn’t need permission to spread, and neither does the gospel.

Introduction:  To prepare for Easter, we’re going to spend the next couple of weeks “Going House to House” – from God’s house (church) to the houses of people God is calling us to share the Gospel with and then back together to God’s house.

Discussion Starter: What word comes to mind when you think about sharing your faith? Why did you think of that word?

Grow

Primary Scriptures:  Matthew 28:18-20, Matthew 24:36-44

Discussion Questions:

  1. Read Matthew 28:18-20. Who is tell others about Jesus? If you have been in or around church for long, you have probably heard about the Great Commission. During the message, Zac asked, “Do you want to share your faith?” Sometimes God tells us to do something, and we don’t want to obey. Discuss.
  2. Continuing discussion of the Great Commission, have you obeyed? Have you shared your faith? If you have, talk about how you saw God move in your life or in the life of another through your obedience. What do we share with others? Zac gave the example of “Apology Evangelism”—apologize for not sharing your faith previously, and ask if you can share it now. Take some time to practice sharing your faith as a group.
  3. Read Matthew 24:36-44. Why is it so important to share the gospel now? How can we be ready for when Christ returns? What do we need to change in our lives to prepare for Him?

Suggestion: Consider breaking the group into twos or threes for this section.

Read Matthew 5:14-16 about a Christ-follower’s identity as salt and light. Then share a specific action each person wants to take this week, and pray for each other in the coming week to live in our identity and shine God’s light into the world.
