Main Idea: Because God sets your purpose, He sets the perspective of that purpose. Jesus says your purpose is progressing the Kingdom of Heaven: your purpose is permanent, powerful, and prolific.

Introduction: This weekend, Pastor Zac continued our values series with our third value: Discover Purpose. We discover our purpose in Jesus, and His purpose for our lives is for us to progress the Kingdom of Heaven and win our world.

Discussion Starter: What comes to your mind when you hear the word, “purpose”? Do you feel like you’ve discovered yours? Why or why not?

Discussion Questions:

  1. Read Romans 8:37 and Ephesians 2:10. What do these verses say about your identity? How does this affect how you view your purpose?
  2. Read 1 Corinthians 4:3-4. Pastor Zac talked about how these verses helped him re-discover his purpose and how Paul lived out his purpose to win his world even when it was dangerous to be a Christian. Has there ever been a time when you felt your circumstances made it difficult to live out your purpose? How did you overcome that?
  3. Read Matthew 10:7. This is our purpose as followers of Jesus. What is a step you can take in your life to live out that purpose, to progress the Kingdom of Heaven?
  4. Read Luke 10:21. Pastor Zac pointed out that when we live out our purpose, it brings Jesus joy. What is one thing you can do this week to bring Jesus joy by living out your purpose?

Suggestion: Break into groups of 2 or 3 for this section.

Read Proverbs 19:21 ESV. Ask God to help you be passionate about living His purposes. Pray that you would live out your purpose, to progress the Kingdom of Heaven, in every moment. Pray that those in your life who don’t know Jesus would come to know Him and discover their purpose in Him. Thank God that you have a purpose.
