Mother’s Day – Discussion Guide

Connect

Main Idea:  We are called to faith in Christ, loved and dear to God’s heart, and kept (watched or guarded) for Christ.

Introduction:  This week for Mother’s Day, Pastor Michele preached on the first few verses of Jude. This letter is addressed to those who are “called, loved by God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ.” For this discussion guide, we will focus on the called.

Discussion Starter: Mother’s Day can stir a lot of feelings from joy and gratitude to a sense of loss or of longing. Check in with each other. How was your Mother’s Day?

Primary Scriptures: Jude 1-3, 2 Timothy 1:1-12

Discussion Questions:

  1. Read 2 Timmothy 1:1-12. Paul calls Timothy his son, and he also mentions Timothy’s mother and grandmother. Why do you think he mentioned them? Who are your parents in your faith journey? Take some time to share something that has been handed down to you by a parent in the faith.

  2. Read 2 Timothy 1:9. How did God call Paul and Timothy? How has He called you? You might share how He called you to faith, or you can share how you feel He is guiding you through the Holy Spirit to do His ministry.

  3. How does Paul pour into Timothy and encourage him? How have you been strengthened in your faith by the community of believers? How can you encourage and build each other up? (1 Thessalonians 5:11)

Suggestion:  Break into small groups of 2 or 3 for this section.

Part of encouraging one another and building one another up is praying for one another. Share your prayer requests and spend time in prayer. If you don’t know what to pray, echo Paul’s prayer for the Ephesian church in Ephesians 3:14-21.
