Who am I Again?
(Written by Katie Lattimore)
Identity theft is something people fear from day to day. We shred our receipts, scribble out passwords, and even go to the extent of hiding those very important documents in a little box in the top of our closets. We are constantly in fear of people ruining who we are. However, we very rarely try to protect our identity in Christ.
We fill our lives with so many activities and fail to realize who we really are. For a very long time I found my self worth in being a worship leader, musician, and through my overall success. However, when I would fail at any of those things, I couldn’t help but take on the identity of a failure at my field. In retrospect, it wasn’t that I was failing at my field, I was failing to see who God had called me to be; a daughter of the King.
“For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, ‘Abba! Father’”- Romans 8:15 (ASV)
When we were adopted as children of Christ, we were given His identity. We were sent to this earth to shine His light and be a representation of who He is. In Galatians it talks about when we were born again, we lost our old identity, the identity of this world, and gained a completely new one.
“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me…” – Galatians 2:20 ( ASV)
When we take the time to realize who we are in Christ, we are able to walk in victory over our failures, shame, and sin. We no longer have to submit to the ways of the world but walk in the light of truth! We have already been justified in Christ ( Romans 3:24)! 2 Corinthians 4:16 tells us even though our flesh decays away, our spirit is renewed each and every day!!
As you go about the rest of your week just remember that Gods’ grace is sufficient and his power is perfect in our weakness- 2 Cor. 12:9
