March Madness Time!

marchmadness

Dear FPC Family,

Once again, our amazing God showed up and showed out in a HUGE way here at FPC and I stand in awe of all He continues to do for our church family! February was our best month ever, with record attendance for all three weekends of our Tale As Old As Time series. This past weekend not only did we have over 8,200 in total worship attendance and over 900 students participating in Fusion 2017, but most importantly 103 souls followed the Holy Spirit’s leading by being baptized!  We thank you, God, and give YOU all the praise!  Please pray with me that all the seeds sown will be firmly planted and many others will take their next steps with our Lord and Savior.

This weekend, March 4-5, we begin our next series called, March Madness. This timely series on finances will help us learn the secret to eliminating the financial foes that trip, trick, and trap us into falling behind and risking our future and freedom. If you are a basketball fan, you know the meaning of “pump fake,” in which a player simulates taking a shot as a distraction to the opposing team. Money buys distraction, not happiness, and we always think we need more. The Bible clearly tells us in Matthew 6:24 that: “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.” Join us during the next four weekends as we learn from God’s Word how to have financial freedom, contentment, and a heart of generosity!

I would also like to ask you to begin now to pray for all of our upcoming Easter services which are only six weeks away. I truly believe God is going to move and draw souls to each of our campuses like never before. Bring Revival, please, Mighty God!

See you this weekend!

Love,

Pastor Chris

I Am the Pharisees

This one hurt. Sometimes when God gives us a word or reveals something to us, it is freeing or encouraging but sometimes it’s a gut check – and that is what this one was for me.

I co-lead a small group with a friend of mine and we spent a few months studying the book of John. We were taking the book a few chapters at a time and we had some great discussion; however, when I was preparing for one of our meetings, God revealed something significant to me – I had been reading these stories from the wrong perspective. I was reading in chapter nine, which is the story of Jesus healing the man born blind, when God sort of nudged my spirit. I’ve grown up reading the bible. I was practically born inside the walls of a church so I’m pretty familiar with a lot of these stories. When I read them I’m usually looking for nuggets of gold in Jesus’ words, yet this time I realized that there could be a shift in my perspective. I am the Pharisees way more often than I would care to admit. It’s easy for us to read these stories and just sort of glaze over them. I’m just as guilty as the next guy of reading the bible to check it off of my “Christian to-do list” of the day, but this was huge for me. I immediately went back through the first few chapters and re-read many of the parts where Jesus is having conversations with the Pharisees and I didn’t want to believe it but it was true.

You see, the Pharisees were so focused on what they wanted their “Messiah” to be, that they were standing in front of the Son of God and missing every single word that he said. That is what made me nervous. I don’t want to be a Pharisee. I don’t want to be so focused on doing “good things” for Jesus that I stop being sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Instead, I want to be the man born blind. It took a man who was desperate to recognize his need for a savior. It took a man who had suffered his entire life to see Jesus for he his truly is, and that’s the key.

We are sinners. We need a savior. The moment that we start to think that we are worthy of our positions, our opportunities, or our talents, we become a distraction. But when we remain humble, remember that we are desperate for salvation, then, and only through Jesus, we can be unstoppable warriors for Christ.

Don’t Miss This New Series on Relationships!

Hello Faith Promise,

All I can say is WOW! What an amazing weekend we just experienced with our Sunday Showdown! Attendance records were broken with almost 8,200 souls worshiping with us at all of our campuses. And here’s an exciting fun fact for all you Twitter followers – #fpShodown was the top trend in Knoxville on Sunday morning! I can’t tell you how grateful I am to everyone who made this super creative weekend a reality. Once again it shows that you CAN have fun in church and learn from God’s Word at the same time! We give God all the Glory for what HE did!

Let’s keep the momentum going on February 11-12 as we begin our new series about relationships called, A Tale As Old As Time. Not only are relationships part of our everyday lives, they are also the key to life. Remember, the first thing Jesus did was to pick His Disciples. We need relationships and their beauty to brighten our lives. But sometimes relationships do not remain happily ever after and can become real beasts. God made us to complete each other, not compete with each other! Over the next three weekends we invite you and your family to be our guests for a series that will enlighten, encourage, and embolden us all to live in and enjoy the beauty, while learning how to battle the beasts, of relationships.

We conclude this series on Fusion weekend, February 25-26, with Baptism Day. Please begin now to pray about whom God would have you invite and bring that could experience life change for all eternity!  I can’t wait!

Looking forward to seeing you this weekend!

Love,

Pastor Chris

Happy New Year, Promisors!

As 2017 begins, I hope you have already joined me and hundreds of your fellow FPC family members in praying, fasting, and using my latest book, Called Out, for your daily devotions with our Lord. As we read and work through this book together during the month of January, I pray and BELIEVE God will use it as an instrument to help each of us grow closer to Him, launching us into our best year yet – personally, spiritually, and as a church body.

If you haven’t already done so, please remember to develop your Personal Growth Plan and commit to reading the Bible through with us this year. Plans to help you accomplish these goals can be found in the back of your Called Out book, and free copies are still available at each of our campuses. If you would like a digital version of the book, you may download a copy here.

On January 7-8, we begin our Called Out sermon series. In the book, we see that an angel showed up at Daniel’s house and gave him a new and wonderful name chosen by God: “Man of High Esteem.” The world wants to put negative labels on us to chain us down and try to defeat us, but God has a different plan! As His children, He doesn’t label us, He names us because through Jesus we are more than overcomers! Wow!

Please don’t miss a single weekend in January as we discover how to change our stinking thinking and become all that God would have us to be. Remember – what God calls you calls you out!

I can’t wait to see what God does and to hear all the life-transforming stories that will occur during this series!  See you this weekend!

Love,

Pastor Chris
