Summer Volunteer Opportunity – Grand Oaks Elementary School
This summer Grand Oaks Elementary School is doing a reading program called “Read to be Ready”. It’s a four week program on Mondays through Thursdays on the dates below:
6/5 – 6/8 6/19-6/22 6/26-6/29 7/10-7/13
The program will include feeding the students lunch which is being provided through established sources. But it doesn’t cover breakfast or snacks. That’s where you can play an important part. GOES is looking to the community to supply the breakfast and snack needs for this program. It has been suggested that these or very similar food items would be best for the children’s breakfasts and snacks: granola bars, apples, bananas. Something healthy, but quick and easy for the workers/ kids to deal with. Orange or apple juice to drink. Breakfast starts when the kids arrive at 8:30. Email [email protected] if you or your group would like to contribute items to feed these kids. For some this program will supply the only nutritious food they will get.
If you can’t help out with food GOES could also use volunteers for reading with students and to help supervise outside activities. The timing for the volunteers is still in development but if you are interested let us know!
Thanks,
Tom Conley
