Series:  “It’s Just Sex”

Focus:  God’s Plan For Our Sexual Decisions

Family Discussion:

Last week we started a conversation about God’s plan for sex in our lives.  This is something that students face every day with growing intensity.  Each day we all have opportunities to make “sexual decisions.”  I would encourage you to use this language when talking about sex with your student as it is broad enough to include all “kinds” of sex as well as our thought lives and even dating situations.  A truth that we can see in our lives is this:  “Every sexual decision we make either cheapens or adds value to our lives.”  There are no “neutral” choices when it comes to sex.  Each decision is either taking us closer to the holiness that God has called us to, or in a direction that is not pleasing to Him.

I Corinthians 6:18-20 “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”

Our sexual decisions will either take us toward life-long memories that are God-honoring and fulfilling or life-long consequences that we regret.  God’s design is for us to honor Him with our bodies…which means staying away from decisions that are counter to His plan!

Discussion Questions:

  1. Why do you think God tells us that sexual sins are “sins against our body”?
  2. How do sexual decisions determine the value of our lives?
  3. What are some ways that you can “honor God with your body”?

There are many sexual decisions we can make that will cheapen God’s intention for sex.  When we choose to use sex as a tool to gain love, use it in a way that is inappropriate (such as homosexuality, rape or incest) or even allow sexual thoughts to fill our minds we are missing the fullness of God’s great gift to us.  How amazing is it that we have a God who will gift us such a gift AND tell us how to use it in the best way possible!

REMIX

Have you ever been in a situation where it felt like everybody else was heading in the opposite direction than you?  That’s how God designed us, to go against the way the world around us lives.  The book of Romans teaches us how to flip our lives to live opposite of the world around us.  Over the next 3 weeks we are going to take a look at what Paul says in Romans and discover the flipped life God designed us to live out.  Join us this Wednesday from 6:30-8:30pm.
