Series:  “Make War”

Focus:  Make Noise – the role of worship in God’s plan

Family Discussion:

The first step in any battle is to have a plan.  You don’t get caught up in a war without knowing what your goal is or what moves will be to reach that goal.  The same is true of our lives; there is a purpose and a plan to who we are and why we are here.  Our first step to understanding that plan is to recognize who God is and what He has done.  In other words, worship.

Joshua 6:2-5 “Then the LORD said to Joshua, ‘See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.’”

God commands Joshua to lead with worship in battle.  By putting the priests in the front Joshua is declaring that they are God’s army and that He is what’s most important to them.  That’s what worship is all about.  We simply thank God for who He is, what He has done and how He is working in our lives.

Discussion Questions:

–          How often to you take time as a family to worship God? (not just singing…but thanking Him)

–          Why was it important for Joshua to lead with worship?

–          What happens when we forget who God is, what He has done and why He created us?

–          How can you “lead with worship” as a family this week?

Application:

One of the values of the Faith Promise Family Ministry is “Creating A Rhythm.”  For the next 7 days build worship into your rhythm as a family.  You can pray together before driving to school, write out what God has done for your family throughout the day during dinner, or even have family members point out unique gifts God has given others in the family before bed time.  The point is to create a rhythm for your family that reflects intentional worship.  Have fun!
