Parent Connection: fpKids

Preschool:  This past week in Preschool we focus on the Basic Truth that God Loves Me!  And He loves me enough to teach me.  A Key Question to ask your Preschooler is, “Who will teach me?”  We want kids to know, “God Will Teach Me”.

Our focus is in Exodus 20 where God taught the Israelites using the Ten Commandments.  Make It Personal this week and read through Exodus 20.  See how God teaches the Israelites how they should live.  Think for a moment how you strive to teach your preschooler how to live.  Remember that God will teach me what I need to know.  Make It Personal and allow your preschooler to see how you strive to grow.  Memorize this verse together:  “I will teach you the way you should go” Psalm 32:8 (NIrV)

Elementary:  Faith is trusting in what you can’t see because of what you can see.

This month we will focus on the concept of Faith and how we express this in our lives.  In fact, we will focus our teaching from the book of Hebrews.  Click here to read chapter 11 of Hebrews and catch a glimpse of how the author draws on history to celebrate faith demonstrated by their ancestors.

Just as our memory verse states, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” (Hebrews 1:1, NIV); faith is trusting in what God will do based upon what He has done.

Faith is a great topic to focus on with our kids.  As we initiate this topic we begin by acknowledging the wonder of what God has already done.  In fact, His creation is a great place to start.  When we stop to look at animals alone… flying squirrels, flying snakes & the platypus… there are multiple reasons to believe in a creative & thoughtful Creator with a great sense of humor.

Week 1 key point:  You can trust in a God you can’t see because you can see what He’s created.

Watch for moments this weekend where you can emphasize this point with your kids.  Help them recognize the things we can see to help increase their trust in a God they can’t see… yet.  J
