Series: “Alive”

Focus: Fullness of Christ

Family Discussion:

Parents, during this series we will be focusing on the book of Colossians and we want to encourage you to use the following “Daily Reading Guide” as your parent resource throughout this series.  Each day there is a small portion of scripture to read, as well as some questions to get them thinking about what they just read.  I want to encourage you as a parent to use the same guide as well.  Find some time during the week to discuss your answers with your student as well as their answers.

WEEK 2: COLOSSIANS 2 DAILY READING GUIDE:

Day 1: Read Colossians 2:1-5, then answer the following questions.

  • What is Paul saying in this passage?
  • What did God say to you in this passage?
  • Paul prays that the Colossians would fully understand Jesus Christ, “in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (v.3). Take a moment and pray for someone in your life group, that they would fully understand Jesus. Take a moment and pray that you would fully understand Jesus.

Day 2: Read Colossians 2:6-7, then answer the following questions.

  • What is Paul saying in this passage?
  • What did God say to you in this passage?
  • Have you rooted (or built) your life in the foundation of Jesus? In what ways has your faith been built up this week?

Day 3: Read Colossians 2:8-10, then answer the following questions.

  • What is Paul saying in this passage?
  • What did God say to you in this passage?
  • What has taken you captive this week, keeping you from being filled with Christ?

Day 4: Read Colossians 2:11-12, then answer the following questions.

  • What is Paul saying in this passage?
  • What did God say to you in this passage?
  • Here Paul describes what happens when we begin a relationship with Jesus Christ: the removal of the old self, or the flesh. How did your life change when you came into a personal relationship with Jesus?

Day 5: Read Colossians 2:13-15, then answer the following questions.

  • What is Paul saying in this passage?
  • What did God say to you in this passage?
  • Paul describes what happens when we accept Jesus as our savior: our penalty for sin is removed because Jesus died for that penalty on the cross. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice we have been made alive together with God. Do you remember what you felt when you first came into a relationship with Jesus and were made alive? Take a moment to thank God for this amazing gift!

Day 6: Read Colossians 2:16-19, then answer the following questions.

  • What is Paul saying in this passage?
  • What did God say to you in this passage?
  • Verse 19 describes Jesus as the head of the body – the body which we as Christians are a part of. In order for us to grow as a body we must remain connected to Christ the head. How have you sought to remain connected to Christ this week?

Day 7: Read Colossians 2:20-23, then answer the following questions.

  • What is Paul saying in this passage?
  • What did God say to you in this passage?
  • The Colossians continued to be held captive by the things and teachings of this world (as we talked about in v. 8-10 and on Wednesday night). But Christ has set us free from captivity. How have you begun to break free from the things which hold you captive?
