Got Swag?
As I interact with students in high school and college on a regular basis, I have noticed a trend among today’s young Christians…a SWAG deficiency!
Now, when I say SWAG I am referring to a level of confidence that is visible and can have an effect on other people. If we’re gut-level honest, many of us wish that we had a confidence that who we are and what we say matters at all. I see it constantly in students, but as an adult I know it’s true of me as well. The problem we face is that we feel we must exchange our confidence for eternal life; that somehow we swap our SWAG for salvation! The result is weak Christ-followers who are afraid to stand up for Jesus in a culture that is running as fast as they can away from Him. Christians, this is not God’s plan for us!
The Lord is very specific that we should not have confidence based on our own abilities…that’s called pride, and it’s a sin. BUT, the result of removing sinful pride is not a void in confidence, but a replacement with SWAG! In Jeremiah 9:24 God tells us “Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight.”
The definition of SWAG is a confidence that comes from a connection with our Creator. Christ-follower, you have a relationship with the God who created the universe! Don’t hang your head in shame! Don’t walk in fear or weakness! Walk with SWAG! Carry yourself with confidence!
When we choose to walk in the strength that comes from a relationship with God we will see a radical shift in the way we live our lives, and we will see God work through us in amazing ways! How can you add some SWAG to your life this week?
