Christmas Gifts
This blog post was written by Dustin Scott, Student Ministry Program Director
When I thought about Christmas as a student I thought about one thing, presents. My parents loved to give us gifts. Back then I didn’t think anything would ever compare to waking up early Christmas morning and opening up my presents. Meanwhile my parents would just wait and watch us open presents, not concerned with their own gifts.
At some point Christmas morning began to change for me. Now I’m the adult in the corner eagerly watching my niece and nephews open their presents, unconcerned about my own gifts under the tree. When I began to reflect upon this reality something Jesus said continued to jump out at me:
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11 ESV)
How great is it to see that look of happiness on your children’s face Christmas morning? Don’t you just love to see their faces light up? God is the same way. He can’t wait to pour out blessings on us; all we have to do is ask. How much do we miss out on because we haven’t asked when God is just waiting to give us an incredible blessing?
Recently my wife and I moved into a new neighborhood. As this year comes to a close we have been asking God to give us an opportunity to connect with our neighbors in order to share Christ with them. That’s when God gave us the idea to give each of our nearly 100 neighbors these small gift bags, along with an invitation to our Christmas production. What better way to honor God’s incredible gift of Christ than to give others an opportunity to meet Him?
As Christmas rapidly approaches don’t miss the opportunity to ask God. Ask God to pour out blessings. Ask God to move in your life. Ask God to open your eyes to the opportunity to share His glorious gift of Christ with those around you. But make sure you are ready, because God loves to give us incredible gifts!
