Embrace Others
The usual order of our guides has been ransacked in an unexpected attack by pirates, and now Captain Jack Sparrow is calling the shots…
When you use the Discovery Bible method, the first thing you do is have everyone go around and share one thing that is causing them stress this week and one thing that they are thankful for. Use this time to get to know one another better and learn how to pray for each other through the coming week. Pray right now for the needs in the group!
After you pray, have each member of the group share what God is teaching them in their personal devotional time.
Encounter God
Primary Scriptures: Luke 12:22-34, Matthew 13:44-46, Matthew 6:19-24
Discussion Questions:
Choose your own adventure and seek your own treasure—choose one of the scriptures above and use the following method to explore the passage.
The Discovery Bible method uses six questions to help us interact with and learn from the scripture passage. BUT, before you get to the questions, take time to read through the scripture verses slowly: Have one member read the verses while everyone follows along in their Bibles. Next, have another group member read the verses aloud while everyone else listens. You may want to try a different translation for the second reading. Last, ask for a volunteer to summarize what was read. NOW we can get to the questions…
- Did anything in this passage capture your attention?
- What did you like about this passage?
- Did anything bother you? Why?
- What does this passage tell us about God?
- What does this passage tell us about Man?
- What does this passage tell us about living to please God?
Engage the World Around Us
Since we believe God’s Word is true, what must we change in our lives to obey God? Do we need to change something in our minds, in our hearts, in our behavior, or in our interactions with others? If you feel that you are already obeying or applying this scripture in your life, share what that looks like in practice.
Are there any needs in your community that need to be met? Teachers in need of cleaning supplies? Neighbors in need of yard work? How can you or your group meet those needs and be Jesus’ hands and feet in the community?
Expand God’s Kingdom
Who in your life can benefit from what you learned tonight? Who could you share these scriptures with? Pray for each other to have the boldness to share God’s Word and how it is working in your life. Pray for the people you will share with this week.
