What We Believe

Our beliefs and values are grounded in the Bible and our conviction that the highest, most important responsibility we have is to tell others about Jesus.

Our Beliefs

Wondering where we stand on things? These statements of belief are anchored in the truth of the Bible and the historic beliefs of the Christian church.

Who is God?

God is the uncreated Creator and ruler of the universe, embodying truth, justice, perfection, and love. Although He is of one essence, He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal in glory and are united in one God.

Genesis 1:1, 3:22, Psalms 90:2, Matthew 28:19, 1 Peter 1:2, 2 Corinthians 13:14

Who is Jesus?

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father, and coexisted with Him since the beginning. He was born from the Virgin Mary. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Matthew 1:22-23, Isaiah 9:6, John 1:1-5, 14:10-30, Hebrews 4:14-15, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Romans 1:3-4, Acts 1:9-11, 1 Timothy 6:14-15, Titus 2:13

Who is the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He is our source of comfort and peace. He gives all believers spiritual gifts when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily.

2 Corinthians 3:17, John 16:7-13, 14:16-17, Acts 1:8, 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16, Ephesians 1:13, 5:18, Galatians 5:25

What does the Bible say about people?

People are made in the image of God, to be like Him in character and represent Him to the world. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin,” which is the Bible's word for deviating from God's perfect way of living. This attitude separates people from God and leads to spiritual death, societal discord, and corruption of God's good world.

Genesis 1:27, Psalms 8:3-6, Isaiah 53:6, 59:1-2, Romans 3:23

What is salvation?

Salvation is God’s free gift to us, but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith, we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into their life, believing in the power of His death and resurrection, and choosing to follow him daily as Lord.

Romans 6:23, 5:1, 10:9-10, 10:13, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 14:6, 1:12, Titus 3:5, Galatians 3:26

What is baptism?

Baptism is the way we show the world that we have decided to follow Jesus. It is an outward representation of an inward transformation, signifying our baptism in the Holy Spirit. It should be performed by immersion after someone has made the choice to become a Christ follower. Although it is not necessary for salvation, it is an important first step in living out a transformed life as a new creation, and all believers should participate to honor the Great Commission.

Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 2:38, Romans 6:3-4, Colossians 2:12, 1 Peter 3:21, Acts 8:36-38, Galatians 3:27, Mark 16:16, Acts 22:16, John 3:5, 1 Corinthians 12:13, Acts 10:47-48, Titus 3:5, Ephesians 4:5, Matthew 3:13-17.

What is the Bible?

The Bible is God’s revelation to us, a library of books that tells a unified story pointing to Jesus. It was written by many human authors of varying perspectives and cultures, all under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, we can believe it to be trustworthy revelation and free of error in all matters of faith and practice.

2 Timothy 3:16, 1:13, 2 Peter 1:20-21, Psalms 119:105, 12:6, Proverbs 30:5

What happens after we die?

People were created to exist forever. We will exist either eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence. Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If you have been genuinely saved, you cannot “lose” it. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security.

John 3:16, 14:17, 10:29, Romans 6:23, 8:17-18, Revelation 20:15, 1 Corinthians 2:7-9,  2 Timothy 1:12, Hebrews 7:25, 10:10, 1 Peter 1:3-5

What is God's plan to redeem all things?

God's plan to redeem and restore all creation was inaugurated at the resurrection of Jesus Christ, promising us that death was forever defeated and Christians have authority over sin, death, and the powers of darkness. Someday, Jesus will return to destroy evil once and for all and reign forever with His people in a new heaven and a new earth, mirroring God's perfect design for union with Him.

Romans 8:19-21, 1 Corinthians 15:20-26, Colossians 2:13-15, Revelation 21:1-4, 1 Peter 1:3-5, Ephesians 1:9-10, Isaiah 25:8, Revelation 11:15

What is God's perspective on the family?

Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. It is God’s unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church. Marriage gives us the framework for intimate companionship and the means for procreation of the human race. Children, who are created by God in the womb and are human lives worthy of protection from the moment of conception, and are a blessing and heritage from the Lord.

Genesis 1:26-28, Genesis 2:24, Ephesians 5:31-33, Matthew 19:4-6, Proverbs 18:22, Malachi 2:14-16, Hebrews 13:4, Psalm 127:3-5, Colossians 3:18-19, 1 Peter 3:7, Genesis 1:27-28, Psalm 139:13-16, Deuteronomy 6:6-7, Mark 10:6-9, 1 Corinthians 7:2-3, Proverbs 22:6.

What is the biblical view of human sexuality?

Sex and human sexuality are a precious gift from God, reserved as a privilege within marriage to fulfill God’s command to be fruitful and multiply and bring husband and wife closer together. We are commanded to honor the sacredness of this gift by reserving it strictly for marriage. Persons outside a married relationship should strive to live a self-controlled, abstinent life through the power of the Holy Spirit. Although healthy sexuality is a key human need, sexual orientation should not be a source of identity; only Christ can provide that.

Genesis 1:27-28, Genesis 2:24, 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, Hebrews 13:4, Proverbs 5:18-19, Song of Solomon 4:10-12, Matthew 19:4-6, 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5, Ephesians 5:3, Colossians 3:5, 1 Corinthians 7:2-5, Romans 13:13-14, 1 Corinthians 7:8-9, Galatians 5:16, Galatians 5:22-23, 1 Peter 2:11, 1 Timothy 4:12, 2 Timothy 2:22.

How does God call us to bring His kingdom into the world?

We build the Kingdom through making disciples, sharing our faith and baptizing new believers, and teaching the world to imitate Jesus. We are called to love humbly and radically, not to be served, but to serve, and to lay down our lives for others. Bringing the Kingdom into the world means that we make this world more like the way God wants it to be. We fight for Godly justice and must honor the biblical call to care for the least and lowest of society, treating them as infinitely precious creations of God. The poor, the widow, the orphan, the immigrant, the prisoner, the sick, and the underresourced are all people that should be protected and provided for in God's Kingdom.
