A Story from Haiti Day 4

Another great day that the Lord had given us! Today has a lot of ‘firsts’ not only for the group but also for the children. Ryan and I started our day a little earlier then the others. We ate breakfast, got ready for church, and headed to Bon Berger to pick the kids up for church. This was a very interesting and exciting experience because these children do not get to go to church on a regular basis due to lack of transportation.

When we arrived at church there was only one large room. There were several groups spread throughout the area with teachers preaching. This was their Sunday school area. Soon after we arrived a bell rang, the group broke up, and everyone was seated. Service started at 9 and ended at 11. Of course the service was something I had never seen been.  They had some preaching then singing and back and forth for the remainder of the time. During the service you have lots of movement because there is no family room or childcare (thanks FP for an awesome family room). The movement wasn’t necessarily from adults but from them sending their child out to occupy themselves.

After church we loaded the children back up and went to the MSI mission house to feed the children and get their swim suites on for the beach! The beach was only about an hour away but most children had never seen it before. It was so awesome to see the reaction and expressions on their little face as the saw the water for the first time. The beach was a total success and we had a great time. Some of the children were hesitant at first but with time we got them in the water.

We have seen some pretty amazing things through these sweet children that God has put in our lives, if only for a short time. I pray the we continue to show them that even when we are gone that God will never leave them, that he is just a reach away.
