Knoxville Inner City Kids Outreach (KICKO) is a Para-church ministry founded in 1005, with a mission to "mobilize the message of Hope" to the at-risk children in our inner-city neighborhoods. This is done through a unique program called Sidewalk SONday School. Large trucks, outfitted to take the church into these communities allow them to share the gospel with children at multiple locations each week. During two semesters per year, elementary age children hear a Biblical message each week designed to encourage them to make God honoring choices. There are also Junior Staff events for teenage youth. There are 11 SONday schools every week.

In October 2000, a newborn baby girl was born to a scared 14 year old mother at home. In order to hide the pregnancy and birth, she abandoned the baby in a neighbor's shed. The baby died from dehydration and the teen was later charged with first degree murder.
This case was the catalyst for the Safe Haven Law. This law allows girls/women to surrender unharmed babies within 72 hours of birth to designated medical facilities such as hospitals, birthing centers, health departments, walk-in clinics, fire stations and police stations , without fear of prosecution. Without awareness of this law, young women will continue to abandon unwanted babies. Because of this law, babies have been saved from death and mother's from legal troubles.
